On Saturday, Ava visited a pond habitat where frogs and fish found food, water, and shelter. Later, the sun warmed the pond, and she noticed tiny puddles near the path disappearing by evaporation, which means the water was changing into gas. A pinecone dropped from a tree and fell down because gravity pulls things toward Earth. A heron waited quietly and then caught a fish, so Ava knew it was a predator. When she slid her shoes on the wooden dock, friction slowed her movement. Ava wrote in her notebook that every plant and animal she saw was an organism, or a living thing.
